FND Hypnosis Research (Connors 2024)
Hypnotherapy helped 87% of 1,584 FND patients.
In 2024, a research team led by Michael Connors (University of Melbourne, Australia) conducted a systematic review of research papers relating to hypnosis and suggestion as treatment interventions for Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
They located 35 studies. 5 were randomised controlled trials, 2 were non-randomised trials and 28 were pre-post studies.
The studies related to 1,584 FND patients.
87% of FND patients (1,379 people) showed significant improvement after treatment with hypnosis.
Their paper summarises each of the studies, including the symptoms and treatments provided.
They report that the interventions varied considerably, including language used, clinical setting, duration, number and frequency of sessions, follow-up period, procedure and homework tasks.
To us, this suggests there is an underlying aspect that can help most people with FND.
We, at EasingIBS, would really like to see more research being performed in relation to hypnotherapy for FND, given the huge potential suggested by the research so far.
