The Art or Science of Medical Diagnosis
These conditions are considered separate medical conditions. However, they are also mostly “syndromes”, which are collections of roughly similar observable symptoms and those definitions have changed over time. This is very different to having a condition that is characterised by specific objective and measurable biological traits. Until these conditions can be diagnosed by a brain scan, which may show biological, psychological or sociological conditions, their classification may be considered more art than science.
Until we have real science, the conditions listed on this page are considered to be issues that are often associated with FND, rather than being part of FND, and each medical term is considered a distinct condition.
